Group of Eight names 2010 European Fellows PDF Print E-mail

Eight early career researchers from Poland, Hungary, Romania, Lithuania and the Czech Republic were today named as the successful Group of Eight European Fellows in 2010. Each fellow will receive benefits worth $20,000 to travel to Australia and work at a Go8 university for up to six months.

“The Go8 European Fellowship scheme recognises the importance of international contacts for early career researchers and plays an important role in building Go8 research partnerships in Europe,” said Go8 Chair, Professor Alan Robson.

Group of Eight (Go8) Vice-Chancellors have called on the Opposition to cease its uncaring approach to the important matter of students having sufficient income to succeed at university.

“The Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009 will realise important changes to student income support announced in the 2009 Budget,” said Go8 Chair, Professor Alan Robson.

Group of Eight (Go8) Vice-Chancellors call on the Senate to pass the Government’s student income support legislation when Parliament sits next week.

$3 million investment in research co-operation with Germany PDF Print E-mail
The Group of Eight (Go8) today announced the funding of 36 new joint research projects worth AUD1.2 million under the Go8-Germany Research Co-operation Scheme.

Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2007, the scheme has provided over AUD3 million to foster research collaboration between Australian researchers from Go8 universities and German researchers.

Maximising benefits of funding for medical education, research and health care PDF Print E-mail

The Group of Eight (Go8) today released an Issues Paper calling for greater collaboration between universities, Medical Research Institutes (MRIs), and teaching hospitals and clinics, to maximise the benefits of medical research funding.

Go8 Chair, Professor Alan Robson, said the Go8 Vice-Chancellors are particularly concerned to ensure that the results of Australian medical research are translated quickly and efficiently to both delivery of health care in hospitals and clinics, and to the education of the next generation of medical and other health care professionals. Most of this occurs in universities, embedded in the hospitals sector.
