Agreements

Learning to speak an additional language is increasingly important for effective participation in a globalised world.

Group of Eight universities play a vital role in the delivery and support of languages education in Australia. All 35 languages currently available at tertiary level in Australia are offered at Go8 universities.

In addition, a wide range of Languages incentives are available both for entry to and while enrolled in programs of study at Go8 universities (see link to Languages incentives PDF below).

Agreements

In 2012 the Group of Eight signed agreements with two Brazilian Government Agencies: CAPES (Agency that belongs to the Ministry of Education) and CNPQ (Agency that belongs to the Ministry of Science and Technology).

Fellowship and internship
French embassy

The French Company Experience Program provides Go8 students the opportunity to work in French business environments in Australia  and France.

The objective of the program is to promote cross-cultural understanding between France and  Australia by enabling Go8 students to work in French business environments and  enabling French companies to develop a better understanding of education at Go8 universities.

Internships will be for durations of either six or twelve month periods depending on the needs of the companies.

ID-E Berlin logo

This workshop series is a joint initiative of the Group of Eight, the British Council, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Canadian Bureau for International Education in Berlin and the Free University in Berlin.

Through the contributions of international participants, the series aims to enrich debate on science, research and higher education policy in Germany, to place German perspectives in a global context and to learn from positive examples from other countries.

The conference is held in October each year in Berlin.

The Group of Eight’s Memorandum of Understanding with Chile’s leading universities, represented by the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities, (CRUCH) commits the two groups to co-operation and dialogue in a number of areas including research commercialisation, technology transfer and qualifications recognition.

In recognition of the excellence of teaching and research that exists in Group of Eight universities, members agree to maximise the opportunities for mobility of students between them by facilitating the transfer of credit earned at their institutions.

The Go8 has signed an historic memorandum of understanding with the China 9 research universities. The China 9 includes some of China’s leading researchintensive universities, which have been selected by the Chinese Government to receive intensive funding for investment in world class research infrastructure and staff, and they are the first choice for the very best Chinese school leavers.

The Framework for Evaluation of Equity Initiatives has been prepared to support the Go8 Equity Strategy. Its purpose is to assist Group of Eight (Go8) universities to evaluate the effectiveness of their equity initiatives and interventions in the context of federal policies and the distinctive missions and responsibilities of the individual Go8 institutions.

EMBL

The Group  of Eight signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Molecular  Biology Laboratory (EMBL) on 29 March  2010.

The Go8 and EMBL have  undertaken to collaborate on the joint award of PhD qualifications in the  subject of molecular biology.

EMBL is  Europe’s life sciences research flagship. Based on analysis of citation data it  ranks as the highest  performing research institution outside the United States.
